Variants of Poker
Poker requires thorough understanding and practice. To help you move a step further, it is important to know that there are several variants of poker. Three popular poker variants are: draw poker, stud poker and community card poker.
Draw poker is a poker variant where a complete hand (five cards) is given even before the start of the first betting round. These cards are faced down initially and can be replaced in the later rounds. It has several game styles, but their similarity can be found in the standard five-card draw. This can be played up to eight members.

Draw poker starts by giving each player five cards facing down, then, after each player reads his own cards, the first round of betting begins. After which the players who didn't fold may choose to replace one to five cards. If a player chooses not to replace anything, he'll leave it as it is. After every player makes a move, the second betting round begins. After that, the remaining players will reveal their cards to determine who wins.
Stud poker is a variation where cards are given one by one, most of the cards are faced up for everyone to see. Five-card stud and seven-card stud poker are the most common stud poker games, although stud is considered to be the least exciting poker variant. In five-card stud, players are initially given two cards, one faced up and one faced down. The first betting round follows. Next, each player is given another faced up card, followed by a betting round, so on, until the players receive four cards faced up and one faced down. Seven-card stud is similar as five-card stud, only that there are six cards faced up and one faced down, and the players have the option of choosing their five best cards when the time players compare comes.
In community card poker, there are several cards the players share. These cards are the community cards. Two popular community card poker variations are Texas holdem and Omaha hold'em. Lanbased and online Texas holdem games start with two players giving forced bets, the big bind and small bind, half of the big bind.. Players being given two cards faced down, called hole cards. After the first round of betting, three community cards are shown. Then the next betting round follows. After that, one community card, called the turn, is displayed, followed by another betting round. Then the last community card, called the river, is displayed, followed by the last betting round. Then all the hole cards are shown to determine who wins. Omaha hold'em is similar to Texas hold'em, except for two facts. First, four hole cards are given instead of two. Second, in showdown, the player chooses two from his hole cards and three from the community cards.
The risk of winning or losing big time depends on how fast the player learns and how competitive the player is.
